With technological advancement and innovations in the mobile phones industry, the era of smartphones has changed the way we do everything from socializing to traveling.

Believe it or not, we’re more hooked to our mobile phones than ever before and how couldn’t we be? With everything they have to offer and how helpful they are in our everyday lives, it’s something a very few people saw coming 20 years ago.

We have to agree that the progress in the telecommunication sector and technology altogether has been impressive and amazing, and that’s why we have seen an unprecedented level of connectivity.

Peek of Mobile Phones in the US

By 2020, it’s estimated that 92.8% of U.S. mobile phone users will own and use a smartphone. Something that wasn’t very portable & was quite expensive back in the days, and was definitely not compact – turned into something everyone has access to and everyone has in their pocket – is really brilliant progress in such a short time.

What only a few people realize is that the huge spike in the peek of mobile phones in the US happened only a couple of years ago, somewhere between 2013 and 2016 where 61% of the households in the US-owned a smartphone.

Even though the first smartphones were introduced to the US public back in the 1990s – almost every American owns a mobile phone of some kind by now.

Demographic shows that both genders between the age of 18-29 use mobile phones the most and they make the most of the percentage of users. After that, the age group of both genders between 50 and 64 follows, where we have the age group of 65+ last.

Mobile Phone Ownership Over Time in the US

As we have mentioned earlier, there was a huge spike and increase in the use of mobile phones in the US, but surprisingly – mobile phone ownership is still growing and by the looks, it’s not planning to stagnate anytime soon.

By 2022, the number of mobile phone users in the US is estimated to reach over 270 million. Nevertheless, that is really mind-blowing for the US. Of course, this number would grow a lot more when the rest of the world is included.

Even though we could see some of the largest spikes in mobile phone ownership between 2013 and 2016, true growth has started a few years earlier.

In 2010, we had 62.6 million of mobile phone users, and no matter how big such number seemed back then – it continued to grow. The growth wasn’t very rapid, yet instead, it was a solid growth that led to where we are today.

Today in 2019, there are about 248.68 million of mobile phone users and there is still a decent growth expected by 2022.

Who knows how will this unfold later the future? Judging by the numbers, it’s pretty obvious that the number of mobile phones will exceed the number of people, not only in the US but also on the planet.

Statistics of the Smartphone Social Media and Internet Data Users in the US

America as a whole has a huge penetration rate of social networks where the highest penetration rate is in North America.

With that being said, around 70% of the population is considered as an active social media user, and about 65% of them connect to their social media account using a mobile phone.

Today, above 85% of the US population uses social media and that only increases the percentage of the population who relies on mobile phones to access social media platforms.

What surprised me is that the number of mobile phones in the US is significantly higher than the number of social media users located in the US – which leads us to believe that there are more mobile phones than social media users already.

In the near future, this will continue to have a growth where we expect social media platforms to be including more than 94% of the US population.

Conclusion

As you can see the connection between the mobile phone users in the US, amount of existing mobile phones in the US, and even the connection between the social media users and smartphone owners in the US – it’s fair to say that mobile phones beat computers, laptops & other gadgets.

With such mobile phone statistics, if we were betting on this, I would always put my money on the side of a decent and continued growth – which is something that is definitely happening as you read this article.

What most people don’t understand is that such growth has happened without a lot of notice until the research has been done and published.

With the amount of quality information we have, the statistics might be scary at first, but compare the life before and after the increase in mobile phone use and you will get to be the judge for the quality of life.

How do mobile phones affect our life? Feel free to let me know what you think!
